Roberto Parapetti – Director of the Italian Mission

Chief of the Italian Mission in Jerash since its beginning in 1977 and director of Monumenta Orientalia since 2008. MO is a non-profit company aimed to promote the research and restoration of the ancient built heritage in the Near East. Beyond all the activities in the sanctuary of Artemis at Jerash, Roberto Parapetti designed remarkable conservation projects all over Irak, at Iasos (Turkey), and Locri (Italy).

Massimo Brizzi – Project manager

Archaeologist, working since 1985 in cultural heritage in Italy and abroad. Taking part in the Italian Mission in Jerash since 1994, fellow of the Department of Archaeology of Durham University (UK), field director since 2009 of the excavation of the University of Roma Tre in  Pompeiopolis (Turkey). Massimo has been a consultant in the Herculaneum Conservation Project (Italy) and in the Bulla Regia Conservation Project (Tunisia).

Stefano Volta – Chief conservator

Technical director of Arché Restauri, a company based in Parma (Italy) specialized in the conservation and restoration of the built heritage and ancient artifacts since its creation in 1991. Among the many interventions, the Artemis Propylaeum in Jerash, the façade of the Parma Cathedral (Italy), the sculptures from the Roman site of Sagalassos (Turkey), the House of the Hunting in Bulla Regia (Tunisia), the House of Neptune and Amphitrite at Herculaneum (Italy). Stefano Volta lectured in the ICCROM International Courses on Stone Conservation between 2009 and 2015. He is running the training on the field of the apprentices conservators of built heritage in Armenia and Georgia for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Valentina Puglisi – Architect

Conservation architect with 20 years of experience in preservation of historical architectures and archaeological sites, ICCROM trainee on the conservation of stone buildings and UCL (London, UK) trainee in project management, she has been Assistant Project Manager at the Herculaneum Conservation Project (Italy), and she is currently consultant for the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage – Institute for Conservation and Restoration, in charge of several European Projects for the conservation and dissemination of the Mediterranean archaeology.

Antonio Abate – 3D survey manager

Archaeologist and expert in geomatics, working as responsible of the archaeological survey in the excavation of the University of Roma Tre in Pompeiopolis (Turkey) since 2012. He has run projects in Italy in collaboration with the Second University of Naples such as the ‘Morcone’s Archaeological Map’, the ‘Forum Popilii Project’ and the ‘Cuma Acropolis
Project’. He has worked in the ‘Herculaneum Conservation Project’ (Italy), in the ‘Grande Progetto Pompei’ (Italy) and in the ‘Bulla Regia Conservation Project’ (Tunisia).

Anna Paterlini – Outreach Project Manager

Public archaeologist by trade, Anna has worked as a communications & branding consultant in the realm of the heritage and tourism industry for projects such as the Herculaneum Conservation Project and the Parchi della Val di Cornia in Italy. After an MBA in Marketing Management and having worked for the past couple of years in the advertising business, she now runs her own agency – Newu –  focused on outdoor advertising and innovation.

Mohamed Atoom – Outreach coordinator

BA degree in Ancient Archaeology at the University of Baghdad and MA degree in Roman Archaeology at the University of Jordan (Amman). Working in the Department of Antiquities since 1999. Mohamed is Head of the Technical Section of the DoA at Jerash.

Chris Boyd – Documentary Producer

Graduated at the Film School of Los Angeles and MA in Archaeology at Durham University, Chris is an Emmy-winning documentary and narrative writer/producer with a strong interest in the intersection of archaeology and current events.

Evelyn Hill – Outreach Field Coordinator

Coordinating our digital and on site outreach projects in Jerash, she is a graduate of The American University of Rome and SDA Bocconi, with degrees in Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and Art Management. Previous experience includes post excavation assistance on the Porta Stabia project in Pompeii and the Foro Pace excavation in Rome.

Noor al-Dine Marazeeq – Technician

Noor works in the Department of Antiquities at Jerash since 1999. He has worked with the French mission for the restoration of the temple of Zeus. Since 2016 he is the warehouse manager of Jerash.

 

Auni Mashnour al-Rawashdeh – Technician

Auni works in the Department of Antiquities at Jerash since 1995. He has acquired considerable experience in the protection and conservation of the ancient built heritage.
