Monument description

Al-Muradia Mosque is located inside Al-Silah Palace in the eastern side of the Old City of Sana‘a, at an altitude overlooking the city from this side.
Al-Hajri mentions that the Mosque and its Minaret were built by the Ottoman vizier Murad Pasha in the year 984 AH. He also mentions the history of some writers by saying that the Dome of the Pasha Murad was called Al-Adiliyah. It was built by the Hanafi stable As (the stable of the Hanafis) by calculating the sentences is equal to 984 AH. Murad Pasha ruled Yemen from the year 984 AH / 1576 CE until the year 988 AH / 1580 CE, that is four years. He became famous during his rule for establishing justice among Yemenis. Among the historians, especially the Yemenis, such as al-Muwazi, Yahya Ibn al-Husayn Ibn al-Imam al-Qasim, and Issa Ibn Lutf who referred to it in the incidents of 985 AH; about his death al-Muwza’i mentions that he died while he was in charge of the Great Ministry, and that he was buried in the place he had prepared for himself in al-Qustahiyya and on the al-Qushayn road. Passing to Hagia Sophia and to the Saray of the Noble Sultanate.

Architectural and cultural value

Construction style and built date: The Dome takes an exaggerated pointed. It is noted on its body that there are plugged holes (20 cm) formed during its construction, i.e. the places on which the reinforcement timber for its construction was based on. The Dome of the Pasha Murad was called Al-Adiliyah. It was built in 984 AH.

Components of the Mosque: Dome, Minaret, Righteousness, Al-Saqifa, the Ablution Unit and traditional baths.

    4- Contribute to the restoration of damaged monuments in a proper manner in order to keep Old Sana’a In the World Heritage Register
